Agent frameworks
Hermes Agent
vincs[hermes] makes Vinc the memory provider of Hermes Agent. Every turn, Hermes adds what your Vinc graph holds about the message. Hermes writes to Vinc only when the person asks, and records turns only in the one space you turn that on for.
Install
pip install "vincs[hermes]"
hermes memory setup # choose vinc
hermes memory status
Install it into the Python environment Hermes runs in, then choose vinc in hermes memory setup. Hermes finds the provider through the hermes_agent.memory_providers entry point, which it reads from v2026.8.13 on. Only one external memory provider is active at a time.
The extra installs nothing beyond vincs. The provider runs inside Hermes, which brings the interface it needs.
Set up
hermes memory setup asks three things.
| Field | What it is | Where it is kept |
|---|---|---|
| Key | A vinc_ro_ key reads; a vinc_sk_ key can also record. | VINC_API_KEY in $HERMES_HOME/.env, kept by Hermes as a secret. |
| Space | personal or a team id. Recall reads it and vinc_record writes to it. | $HERMES_HOME/vinc.json |
auto_record_space | One space where every completed turn is recorded. Leave it blank and no turn is recorded. | $HERMES_HOME/vinc.json |
Make keys on your vincs.io account page. If Hermes has nothing to record, a read-only key is enough.
What it reads
Every turn, Hermes adds the block the SDK's get_context builds: one lookup for the node that matches the message, widened by a search when it ties or finds nothing. The block is marked as reference data, not instructions. When Vinc cannot be reached, the daily limit is used up or the key is refused, that turn goes on without it.
The model can also call vinc_search and vinc_brief itself; vinc_brief also takes a node id.
What it writes
vinc_record writes one Episode, tagged hermes, about the concepts or decisions it names. The tool appears only in a conversation with a person and only with a vinc_sk_ key, and its description tells the model to call it only when the person asks.
With auto_record_space set, each completed turn becomes an Episode tagged hermes-turn in that space. Nothing else is written. Cron jobs, subagents and other agents Hermes runs without a person record nothing, and neither does compacting the conversation or a change to Hermes's built-in memory.
What to expect
- Recall costs one call per turn, or two when it widens to a search, and each tool call adds one. Calls count against your daily limit.
- Recording the same turn again merges into the same Episode.
