Using the app
Using AI
Vinc does not write sentences itself. It hands your graph to an AI assistant to read and work from. Copy a prompt from a node or a document and paste it into an assistant, or give an assistant an agent role to work as.
Asking from a node
On a node card or in the node detail, press Copy prompt next to Ask an assistant and a menu opens.
- Copy prompt Opens the three requests below. Pick one and that request is copied to the clipboard.
- Explain this concept Asks for an explanation of this concept using only what is in your graph.
- Compare with its neighbours Asks for a comparison with the linked nodes and where they disagree. The subtitle shows the link count.
- Related documents Asks to see the documents behind this node and what each one says.
What is copied is one request and one address pointing at the node, on a single line. Paste it into an assistant connected to Vinc over MCP and the assistant reads that node from your graph to answer. Connecting is on Connect over MCP.
Asking from a document
The same menu at the top of the reader offers requests suited to a document.
- Summarise this document Asks for a summary that keeps the original wording where it matters.
- Pull out the concepts Asks for the concepts the text argues for, each with the sentence it rests on.
- Check it against the graph Asks for a comparison with the rest of your graph and where they disagree.
Agent roles
Press Agent in the top row of the sidebar and the agent roles gather by team where the topic tree was. A line at the top of the list says how to hand a role to an assistant. The demo below shows the roster the Vinc team uses; a new account starts with four default roles (Quickstart).
- Team The team the roles belong to.
- Role The role's name. lead marks the role leading that team. Press it and the role node opens in the wide panel over the graph, with all its properties, such as what it does and what it reads first.
- from · then · beside from is a role that hands work to this one, then a role this one hands work to, beside a role working alongside.
A role node's prompt menu gets Work as this role at the top. Copy it into an assistant and the assistant reads the role's brief and works as it says. In a host connected over MCP, roles also show up as prompts (for example agent-reviewer).
From 0.9.6 this item appears on every role, the default roles included. Up to 0.9.5 it appears only on roles under the vinc/agent/roles topic, so call the default roles from the MCP host's prompts.
What a role is and how to write one are on Agents and Writing a role.
Connecting assistants
In the desktop app, Settings > AI connections registers Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and Codex CLI one at a time with Connect. Restart the host after registering and it reaches Vinc.
Under Web assistants on the same tab, Copy address gives the address to add to claude.ai or ChatGPT. The web app's settings have no such tab, so on the web use the address on Connect over MCP.
