Time settings
Vinc keeps two times: when recorded in the graph, and when it happened. Time settings choose which one to look by, wind back to a point in time, or replay how the graph built up.
The Time section of the view card
In the graph, open the view card at the top right and scroll the options down to the Time section.
- Basis When recorded places things by when they were written down, so what you added in one go lands together. When it happened places them by when the thing took place, spread out whatever day you wrote it.
- Time cursor Move the slider left and only what existed at that point shows. Concepts with no date of their own stay visible. All the way right is All.
- Flow Press Play to watch the graph build up from the start to now. Press again to stop.
When it happened is written in the When field as you write a document, and in the date under a node's Basics. If nothing has that date yet, switching the basis tells you so. How to write them is on Putting knowledge in and A node up close.
The Timeline
Switch the viewpoint to Timeline and things stack in a column per date.
- Dates The year and the dates run along the top. They follow the basis above.
- Period The period you are looking at. Press it to open the period picker.
- Undated documents How many documents have no date and so cannot sit on a column.
Press a month band above the dates and a list of what falls in that period opens.
Picking a period
Press Period and this picker opens.
- Quick periods All, the last 7, 30 or 90 days, or this year.
- Pick a month Press the title to pick a month, and the arrows either side to step back or forward.
- Days with a dot A dot means something was recorded that day. Press a start day and an end day and the days between become the period.
- Start and end You can also type them as
YYYY,YYYY-MMorYYYY-MM-DD. - Show all Clears the period and goes back to everything.
